China Launches Agri-Science and Technology Program
May 6, 2011 |
The Chinese government launched the Agri-Science and Technology Introduction Program in its 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015). Over the next five years, the program will mainly support technology introduction in the following five fields: agricultural bio-resources, key industry transformation technologies, technologies to address global challenges, prospective high-technology, and new ideas and methods in agricultural research and development.
Through a combination of technology introduction and independent innovation, this program aims to make China maintain world class level in molecular breeding of rice and transgenic technologies innovation, as well as to make breakthroughs in seed industry, low-carbon agriculture, bio-energy, and global climate change.
