MONRE to Strategize Climate Change Projects in Vietnam

May 20, 2011

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has drafted a strategy on climate change that will be the focus of discussion among scientists and environmentalists in northern and central provinces of Vietnam in a seminar in Hanoi.

According to the Deputy Minister Tran Hong Ha, "The national strategy on adaptation to climate change will include concrete actions and prospects until 2050 with a vision to 2100. It will focus on some main actions such as the construction of coastal breakwaters, and irrigation works to fight seawater intrusion and prevent high tides."

In addition, Vietnam will be spending US$160 million for agriculture and US$450 million for basic infrastructure. Research and development and infrastructure in agriculture should be conducted side by side to meet the impending effects of climate change.
