Adesina Calls on Speeding Up Biosafety Bill Approval

Nigeria Minister of Agriculture Dr. Akinwumi Adesina won the Forbes Award because of his efforts to ensure food security in Nigeria, considered as the most populous country in Africa. During an interactive session with the members of Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), Adesina said that the approval of the Biosafety Bill must be fast-tracked to regulate certain technologies and protect biodiversity.
"Nigerians are very smart people, a very educated people; so, nobody anywhere, whether in Europe or America can tell Nigerians what technologies to use to feed themselves. We make those decisions but we are responsible enough to have in place good science, good regulations, and good risk assessment to determine what to do," Adesina explained.
