Europe Needs Policy Changes to Contribute to Global Food Needs

October 21, 2011

Policy and regulatory changes are necessary if Europe is to meet its own food security needs and contribute to the global food requirements. This was forwarded by Joyce Tait of the University of Edinburgh and Guy Barker of the University of Warwick, UK in their article published in EMBO Reports.

In Global food security and the governance of modern biotechnologies, Tait and Barker explore the link between regulation and innovation in the context of food security in Europe, and considers the impact of European policy on the ability of other countries to respond to food security challenges.

"We will need clearer strategic thinking on how to implement a governance approach under these circumstances for the investments we make in scientific research to contribute to food security," the authors concluded.
