EC-JRC Notification on GM Sugar Beet for Glyphosate Formulation Studies
April 29, 2011 |
The European Commission - Joint Research Centre announced the application of Monsanto for a deliberate release into the environment of genetically modified (GM) sugar beet in West Zealand, Denmark. The release will be conducted to compare the herbicide effect and the selectivity of different glyphosate formulations in the glyphosate tolerant sugar beets.
The herbicide tolerant sugar beet event H7-1 expresses the CP4 EPSPS proteins which confers resistance to the herbicide glyphosate. Similar releases are planned to be conducted in the Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Spain, the United Kingdom and Romania.
