April 29, 2011 |
The Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre (MABIC) is publishing a free monthly newspaper with a focus on biotechnology and life-sciences, named The Petri Dish. The Petri Dish is the first of its kind in this region which aims to bridge biotechnology and society. The newspaper is being circulated to research institutes, universities and colleges, ministries, government agencies, industry, and hospitals. MABIC intends to circulate The Petri Dish to secondary schools soon.
The monthly publication is getting positive responses from biotechnology stakeholders with the Deputy Secretary General of MOSTI, Datin Paduka Prof. Dr. Khatijah Yusoff saying, "It's a good start to introduce biotechnology to the community". Dr. Umi Kalsom Abu Bakar, the director for Biotechnology Research Centre at the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute describes The Petri Dish as an effective tool to educate the public on biotechnology.
The PDF version of The Petri Dish is available at MABIC's website: http://www.bic.org.my. The Petri Dish will be officially launched on July 9, 2011 by Datin Paduka Prof. Dr. Khatijah Yusoff.
