The Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) in Malaysia which comprises four northern states – Perlis, Kedah, Penang, and Nothern Perak - will have a multi-million ringgit National Seed Centre which will see collaboration with Chinese experts on high-quality seedlings. The state-of-the-art centre will be located either in Arau or Kangar which is expected to be ready within seven months. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will perform the ground-breaking ceremony for this centre which is being initiated by Sime Darby Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Agriculture Sciences. Quality seed will be produced for both export and local market. The experts from China will help in the research & development of seed cultivation. To support the centre, the state will set up a cluster of factories and this is expected to create more than 10,000 jobs.
