Report Says Enhance Food Security in Africa through S & T

The main challenge for Africa is to strengthen the innovation capabilities of African agricultural systems to successfully address poverty, improve food security and achieve economic development. This view was forwarded in Technology and innovation report 2010: Enhancing food security in Africa through science, technology and innovation published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. The report forwards several recommendations for policy makers for action to support agricultural research and development, among which include:
- Place smallholder farmers in the center of policy
- Strengthen policymaking capacities
- Target agricultural investment
- Revitalize funding and strategies for research and development
- Promote linkages within and outside the agricultural innovation system
- Engage in capacity building
