GM Canola in High Demand in Western Australia

June 25, 2010

Roundup Ready® canola plantings in Western Australia have already exceeded Monsanto's expected plantings. The government has just allowed commercial planting of the GM canola in April and currently there are over 70,000 ha of land sown with GM canola, more than double Monsanto's projection.

Tom Breen, the WA Business Manager of Monsanto Australia, regard this high demand as a confirmation of the growers' eagerness to use the new technology matched for their operations. "It's our understanding that WA growers recognize Roundup Ready canola as an excellent fit to make their cropping systems more sustainable, because of the reliable weed control and assistance it gives them in managing resistance to other herbicide groups," he added.
