Dr. Norman Borlaug's Statue Unveiled in India

India's Union Minister of Agriculture Mr. Sharad Pawar unveiled the statue of Dr. Norman E. Borlaug at National Agricultural Science Centre Complex, New Delhi, India at a function jointly organized by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), CIMMYT and Borlaug Global Rust Initiative (BGRI) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Borlaug's introduction of high-yielding wheat varieties to India.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Mr. Pawar commended Borlaug's contribution to wheat production in India. He explained how Borlaug addressed the challenges and complexities of world food requirements, and how he dedicated his life to agriculture. He stressed upon the need to take the work started by Borlaug to fulfill the needs of the poor.

Ms. Jeanie Laube-Borlaug, Chairperson of BGRI and daughter of Dr. Norman Borlaug, Dr. R.S. Paroda, Chairman, TAAS; Dr. R.B Singh, President, NAAS and Dr. Sanjay Rajaram, a close associate of Dr. Borlaug also gave their valuable remarks on the occasion.
