OGTR Issues Licenses for GM Cotton and Wheat
August 22, 2013 |
Australia's Gene Technology Regulator (the Regulator) issued a license for DIR 118 from Monsanto Australia, authorizing the commercial release of pima cotton (a species of cultivated cotton) that has been genetically modified (GM) for herbicide tolerance. The GM cotton and products derived from the GM cotton would enter general commerce, including use in human food and animal feed.
The Regulator also approved earlier the limited and controlled release of Victorian Department of Primary Industries' DIR 122 (wheat genetically modified for enhanced yield stability).
Details of these approvals are at http://www.ogtr.gov.au/internet/ogtr/publishing.nsf/Content/dir118
