Prof. Calestous Juma: Invest in Biotechnology, and Adapt Learnings to Other Sectors

August 22, 2013

In a recent interview with the CNN Prof. Calestous Juma of Harvard Kennedy School has called on Africa's leaders to give biotechnology a try. This is because Africa's ability to sustain its current growth will depend largely on how quickly it will be able to shift from reliance on traditional commodity markets to modern economic structures that focus on technology-driven development.

To date, only four African countries (South Africa, Burkina Faso, Egypt and Sudan) have adopted transgenic crops.

Prof. Juma calls on the continent to rise and catch up with the rest of the world in an interview available at http://edition.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/international/2013/08/05/spc-african-voices-calestous-juma-b.cnn.html.
