China Establishes National Lab for Super Grain

The National Laboratory for Hybrid Rice was recently established in the central Changsha City, Hunan to focus on research to increase rice yield to 15 tonnes per hectare. The laboratory will be under the support of the Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center and Wuhan University and the expertise of top senior scientists Yuan Longping, Zhu Yingguo and Xie Hua'an. Conventional techniques combined with molecular and transgenic research will be used to expedite the process of developing the ‘super rice grain'.
