GM Research Vandalized in Europe

July 30, 2010

Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Switzerland have experienced more than 70 acts of vandalism against academic or governmental research on genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Most of these were field tests designed to assess the safety of GMOs.

Dr. Marcel Kuntz, Director of Research of the The Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (National Center for Scientific Research) Grenoble, France, provides a detailed list of these acts of vandalism. He cites a few cases where the destruction was accompanied by other damage to property, threats or violence against persons.  CNRS is a government-funded research organization, under the administrative authority of France's Ministry of Research.
