EFSA Reports on Public Consultation for the Draft Assessment of Allergenecity of GM Plants and Microorganisms
July 30, 2010 |
The EFSA Panel on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO Panel) has received 181 comments from 17 interested parties (individuals, non-governmental organizations, industry, academia and national assessment bodies) in response to the call made on 21 October 2009 for the Draft Scientific Opinion on the assessment of allergenicity of GM plants and microorganisms and derived food and feed.
According to the report, "the comments were constructive and aimed to help improve the draft, and the weight-of-evidence, case by case approach is still the most appropriate way of assessing the potential allergenicity of GM plants and microorganisms and derived food and feed". In addition, there were a number of comments that expressed the need to further validate some recommended methods, some editorial improvements and clarifications, and few new suggested references.
