USDA Grants Protection to 19 New Plant Varieties

July 23, 2010

Nineteen new varieties of seed-produced and tuber propagated plants including teff, fescue, oat, ryegrass and soybean have been recently given certificates of protection to developers. The certificates were issued by the US Department of Agriculture under the Plant Variety Protection Act.

With this certificate the developer/owners should make sure that the varieties are new, distinct, uniform and stable and they would have the exclusive right to reproduce, sell, import and export their products in the U.S. for the duration of the protection.
