SEAMEO BIOTROP and BATAN Enter an Agreement on Research

SEAMEO BIOTROP in collaboration with the National Atomic Energy Agency (BATAN) will conduct biotechnology researches in the cultivation and improvement of sorghum, control and management of pests and diseases affecting the crop, and devise ways to increase sorghum production to support the livestock industry. SEAMEO BIOTROP will provide expertise in agriculture and tropical biology while BATAN will be responsible for experts in atomic and nuclear technology.
Director of SEAMEO BIOTROP, Dr. Bambang Purwantara and Head of BATAN, Dr. Hudi Hastowo signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) on 3 September 2009 at the BATAN Campus, Jakarta, Indonesia in the presence of unit heads and researchers of SEAMEO BIOTROP, and executive staff of BATAN. A presentation on the program and activities of sorghum research carried out at BIOTROP was delivered by Dr. Supriyanto, a researcher of SEAMEO BIOTROP. The meeting was concluded with a campus tour of BATAN research facilities.
