Nigerian Govt Official Promotes Biotech for Food Security

Nigeria can achieve food security when farmers adopt biotechnology, stated Winifred Oyo Ita, Permanent Secretary of Nigeria's Ministry of Science and Technology, during her visit to the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) on May 28, 2014. She mentioned that some countries have adequate food because they have fully embraced biotech. Ita stressed the importance of biotech in the development of the economy. Thus, ignoring the technology would lead to a failure in reaching the country's economic target. She further urged farmers to embrace biotech because scientific studies have revealed that there is nothing to fear in GM crops and animals.
