Conference to Discuss Roots for the Future
Scientists with expertise in plant roots convened this week in James Hutton Institute, Scotland, United Kingdom, to participate in the International Society of Root Research (ISRR). It is a four day conference (26-29 June) to discuss various topics to speed up root research to increase crop productivity.
ISRR President Professor Peter Gregory, former chief executive of the Scottish Crop Research Institute and now chief executive of East Malling Research, said that scientists now have the tools to investigate roots and root system improvements. Current studies on roots are focused on trees, cereals, vegetables and grasses, and how the roots can be improved to perform better.
