EFSA: GM Maize MIR162 is Safe to Use
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) released a scientific opinion that the insect resistant maize MIR162 is safe to use as food and feed, import and processing. The EFSA GMO Panel considers that the risk assessment findings about MIR162 answer the scientific comments submitted by the Member States of the European Union. The results also imply that MIR162 is as safe as its conventional counterpart and other non-GM varieties available in the market, in terms of its effect on human and animal health, and the environment.
