Uganda May Allow Biotech Crops to Increase Production
Uganda is considering a bill to permit biotech crops in the country to increase production, according to Uganda Biotechnology and Biosafety Consortium. This bill is being considered due to the reports about the successful introduction of GM crops in other African countries namely South Africa, Egypt, and Burkina Faso. It was also reported that crops that would possibly be allowed in the country include bacterial wilt resistant banana, drought tolerant corn, insect resistant cotton, and virus resistant cassava.
