CRISPR Leafy Greens Now Available in US Market

Pairwise announced the introduction of Conscious^TM Greens to some restaurants and outlets in selected areas in the United States (US). The vegetables were developed using the gene editing tool CRISPR and feature fresh leafy flavors that are more palatable to consumers with doubled nutrition of romaine.

The blend of gene-edited vegetables was made available in Springfield, Massachusetts, Minneapolis, St. Paul, and St. Louis and will be shipping to other US grocery stores in the latter part of 2023. The companies behind it aim to address consumers' demands for nutritious and fresh fruits and vegetables while demonstrating that innovative technologies can deliver favorable results in meeting nutritional requirements despite the challenges brought by climate change.

Conscious^TM Greens were derived from mustard greens and are part of the Brassica family, which includes Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and kale. The leaves' luxe purple and deep green colors  and improved nutritional content increase the appeal of the gene edited vegetables to food industry players.
