Review: Biotechnology Helps in Improvement of Environment

Muhammad Awais and colleagues at the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Pakistan, published a review on the recent advancements environmental biotechnology, with emphasis on food production, pollution control, and bioenergy production.

According to the authors, the success of genomics in environmental biotechnology will strongly depend on several factors such as social and cultural acceptance of technological change, levels of technology and infrastructure investment in respective countries, market drivers, and other structural determinants. They also stressed that the future biotechnologies have a potential to become a major driving force in the field of environment, which can be beneficial for both underdeveloped and developed countries.
