June 17, 2011 |
What are genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and GM foods (GMF)? Are GMF safe? How does one differentiate GMF from non-GMF? An initiative called "Approaching GMOs" was launched by the Beijing Bureau of Agriculture in a supermarket in Beijing on June 1, 2011. Agricultural experts on site answered customers' questions on GMOs and their safety.
The Beijing Bureau of Agriculture is a government agency responsible for supervising GMO research and development activities and in monitoring GM product labeling of such products as soy oil and blend oil in the market. The agency conducted GMF labeling checks in markets and noted that GM soybean oil was labeled as such.
