Pakistan Agricultural Scientists Urged to Initiate Productive Projects
April 8, 2011 |
Mr. Shafqat Naghmi, the Secretary to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Livestock, Pakistan, called on agricultural scientists to develop projects that can improve the country's economy and contribute to a decline in poverty. He gave this remark as chair of the 4th meeting of the Program Steering Committee (PSC) of the Research for Agricultural Development Program (RADP) held at the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council.
The Secretary added that the country needs to rely on new biotechnology. To achieve the required goal "we have to move from resource-based to science-based agriculture."
RADP is a government project to achieve the research and development goals and objectives of the Medium Term Development Framework (MTDF), and Vision 2030. The project aims to make quick responses to emerging and re-emerging research issues and problems and implement a research agenda within 22 research themes. The project also aims to strengthen the research infrastructure of laboratories through state-of-the-art equipment, farm machinery, and green houses.
