Benchmark Study on Glyphosate-resistant Crop Systems

April 8, 2011

Pest Management Science published a research study on weed management methods that foster sustainability of genetically engineered (GE) glyphosate-resistant crop systems. In this benchmark study conducted by Michael DK Owen of the Iowa State University, USA, and colleagues, the field-scale experiments were followed by a survey conducted in 2005-2006 about the farmer opinions on weed management practices and their perceptions about glyphosate-resistant weeds as well as management tactics. Results of the survey supported the premise that most growers are "less aware of the significance of evolved herbicide resistance and did not have a high recognition of the strong selection pressure from herbicides on the evolution of herbicide-resistant (HR) weeds."
