PGE Study: Positive Socio-Economic and Environmental Contributions from GM Crops

May 22, 2009

Findings of a comprehensive study on "GM crops: Global socio-economic and environmental impacts 1996-2007" by Graham Brookes and Peter Barfoot of PG Economics Ltd, United Kingdom reveal that "biotechnology has delivered economic and environmental gains through a combination of their inherent technical advances and the role of the technology in the facilitation and evolution of more cost effective and environmentally friendly farming practices."

The study focuses on the farm level economic effects, the production effects, the environmental impact resulting from changes in the use of insecticides and herbicides, and the contribution towards reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
