Malaysia to Announce Regulation Framework Under Biosafety Act
May 22, 2009 |
After various calls from the industry to review the Biosafety Act, both the Ministry of Natural Resources (NRE) and Environment and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) have decided that new ruling would be added instead of amending the Act. This was announced by the MOSTI's deputy minister at Biotechnology Industry Organization (Bio) Atlanta Convention. Deputy Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof said the first draft of the regulations has been drafted and the industry will be consulted before it is finalized. The Minister says the regulation will clearly state how to comply with the Biosafety Act and address the grey areas in the principle Act.
