December 20, 2023 |
Awareness-building activities have been the cornerstone of knowledge-sharing and capacity-building initiatives of various organizations in the country. These activities aim to promote an enabling environment for biotechnological innovations. As part of the ongoing efforts to promote biotech, ISAAA Inc. collaborated with the Biotechnology Coalition of the Philippines (BCP) to organize a webinar series about gene editing and gene drive. The first webinar, titled Gene Genies: Gene Editing by Filipino Scientists, is scheduled on January 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM GMT+8, while the second webinar on gene drive is planned for February 2024. The pre-registration is now open to all public high schools in the Philippines. Each school may submit names of five students and one teacher as participants.
The webinar is focused on raising awareness and appreciation of gene editing among young and aspiring food producers and entrepreneurs all over the country. It aims to cultivate science culture among students and build confidence in pursuing science-related careers. Specifically, this webinar aims to discuss the following topics:
- Current status of gene editing applications in crops, livestock, and aquaculture
- Potential impacts of gene editing globally and in the Philippines
- Potential benefits of gene editing in solving challenges of food and agriculture, environment, and climate change
Attendance at this event is free of charge. Participants will receive workshop materials provided by ISAAA Inc. To express your interest in attending, fill out this form. The deadline for pre-registration is January 5, 2024. For inquiries, send an email to meetings@isaaa.org.
