
Agbiotech Advocate is 2022 CSSA Awardee

Professor Rajeev Varshney is the recipient of the 2022 International Crop Science Award by the Crop Science Society of America. He is being recognized as a global leader in genomics, crop science, and international agriculture this year.
Professor Varshney is the current Director of the Centre for Crop and Food Innovation at Murdoch University. He is also the Director of the State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre at Murdoch, and the University's International Chair in Agriculture and Food Security. His contributions and professionalism to long-lasting changes in crop science practices, products, and programs at an international level have all contributed to his reputation as a champion of science innovation geared towards the improvement of crop sciences.
He has significantly contributed to food security improvement in Asia and Africa by creating genomic resources of major “orphan” tropical plants as well as participated in international programs to develop and bring superior crops to small farmers globally. He continues to engage in research and development of innovative solutions to alleviate agriculture and food security challenges.
In late June 2022, ISAAA Inc. featured Prof. Varshney in the virtual Training-Workshop on Social Media Management for Biotech Advocacy intended for Filipino researchers, scholars, farmers, and media where he shared his experiences as an influencer and biotech advocate on various social media platforms where he commonly engages in discussions about modern biotechnology. Prof. Varshney is one of the top scientist-influencers in biotechnology with over 15,000 followers on Facebook and Twitter.
