U.S. and China Commit to Further Improve Biotech Approval Process

September 30, 2015

The United States and China have conducted in-depth discussions about agricultural biotechnology, and committed to further improve the approval processes. Representative from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and China's Ministry of Agriculture discussed the issue in the Strategic Agriculture Innovation Dialogue before U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping met last week.

In the Fact Sheet issued by the White House, it said, "Both sides reaffirmed the importance of implementing timely, transparent, predictable, and science-based approval processes for products of agricultural biotechnology, which are based on international standards." The Fact Sheet also stated that both sides committed to share experience in and practices of research and development, regulatory administration, and safety approval of agricultural biotechnology.
