New York Legislature Fails to Pass Biotech Labeling Bill

June 25, 2014

The proposed statutory law requiring labels on GM products failed to move forward through the legislative process in this year's session in New York, United States. The bill remains unapproved when the lawmakers adjourned for the year. Thus, the bill will have to start again from scratch next year.

GM product labeling would affect all sectors of food production, leading to additional costs for the consumers. According to a study conducted by Cornell University, if the law would be approved in New York, the cost of food for a family with four members would increase by US$300-800 per year.
