Biotech Advancement Slow in Tanzania Says Government Official

Agri-biotech adoption is slow in Tanzania despite government initiatives because of the lack of  trained staff, infrastructure for biotech research, and public knowledge on biotech, says Deputy Minister of Finance Adam Malima. He said that despite numerous efforts made by the government to embrace the technology, including collaborations with stakeholders to educate the public on the use of modern biotechnology through the Open Forum for Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) and seminars, there is still limited knowledge amongst the public. Malima said these statements in the parliament was as a response to a question forwarded by Murtaza Mangungu (Kilwa North-CCM) who had wanted to know the initiatives of the government in educating the public on biotechnology.
