GEAC Allows Field Trials of 11 New Varieties of Biotech Crops in India

The Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) of India approved the field testing of 11 biotech crop varieties on March 21, 2014. GEAC, which is under the Ministry of Environment and Forest, decided to revalidate the field trials of biotech maize, wheat, rice, cotton, and sorghum. However, state governments must also grant permission for the trials to push through.
