CAS Academician Highlights Significance of Genetic Science
November 27, 2013 |
A symposium titled Genetic Science Makes Life Better organized by Chinese Society of Biotechnology (CSBT), Beijing Institutes of Life Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), and The National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC), supported by International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) was held on Nov.24, 2013 at Academic Hall of NSLC. This event is one of the serial activities with the theme of 60th Anniversary of the Discovery of DNA Double Helix: Biotechnology for a Better Life hold by CSBT this year. More than 300 researchers, educators, graduate students and college students from research institutes, universities, biotechnology companies participated the event.
Dr. Yang Huanming, Academician of CAS and the leader of China's participation in the International Human Genome Project (HGP) gave the keynote speech Genomics and the Future of Humanity. He pointed out that genomics brings human to the DNA sequence-based new era of life science and bio-industry, which provides people with a better life. Prof. Ma Dalong from Beijing University, Prof. Huang Dafang from Biotechnology Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Prof. Chen Guoqiang from Tsinghua University discussed the history, status, and future of genetic engineering from medicine, agriculture, and industry perspective, respectively.
