Bangladesh Biosafety Rules in Gazette

Bangladesh has gazetted the "Bangladesh Biosafety Rules 2012" promulgated by the Ministry of Environment and Forests on 2 September 2012. The rules will facilitate the research, development and production of genetically modified organisms and will also deal with their export/import and transboundary movement. It was developed according to the provisions of the "Bangladesh Environment Protection Law 1995". Based on the new rules, an individual or a party can be liable for imprisonment or subject to fines if found to have harmed the environment within 30 days of an official report.
