  • Dramatic events such as uprooting of biotech crops on field trials increased the interest of the journalists to write about biotech.
  • Government officials have been the primary source of information in the articles on biotechnology for the past 17 years.
  • Positive articles increased from 41% (2000-2009) to 59% (2010-2016)
  • There was a significant shift in the use of governance to social progress in framing articles.
  • There was decrease in use of fear metaphors, and increase in use of metaphors depicting potential or promise.
