Insect resistant Bt brinjal (eggplant) is the first genetically engineered food crop approved for planting in a developing country. Commercial planting started in Bangladesh in 2014 and continues to bring benefits to the farmers and consumers. Using the same technology in local eggplant varieties, scientists in the Philippines developed Bt eggplant and is expected to bring socio-economic and environmental benefits to the country.
ISAAA monitors the advances in Bt eggplant technology. Scholarly articles from peer-reviewed journals, news releases from the Crop Biotech Update, ISAAA publications and videos, and other resource materials on Bt eggplant are summarized in this page.
