Cartoon Booklet GM Knowledge Q&A Released

July 20, 2012

A cartoon booklet GM Knowledge Q&A produced by Chinese Society of Biotechnology(CSBT), ISAAA China Biotechnology Information Center (ISAAA ChinaBIC) and CropLife China Biotech Committee is now online for download. The cartoon booklet is designed to answer the most concerned questions asked by students and teachers from primary school, middle school and university, the public and researchers from other fields who are not familiar with biotechnology.

The booklet discusses various topics such as principles, applications, safety assessment and benefits of biotechnology/GM crops through eye-catching characters Mimi (Bt rice), Lele (GM phytase maize) and Dodo (Bt cotton) in simple and understandable way. Mimi, Lele and Dodo are GM crop mascots created by CSBT and ChinaBIC last year for the GM Knowledge into Campus Program. Bt rice, GM phytase maize, and Bt cotton are developed by the Chinese public sector. Bt cotton has been approved for planting in China and shows huge benefits. GM phytase maize and Bt cotton are proved safe and waiting for commercialization which depends largely on the public acceptance.
