CIAT Launches First Book of the Issues in Tropical Agriculture Series
July 20, 2012 |
The inaugural volume of International Center for Tropical Agriculture's (CIAT) new series of publications called Issues in Tropical Agriculture was launched on July 3. The book, titled Eco-Efficiency: From Vision to Reality was produced to foster debate and action on the notion of eco-efficiency, a concept which has been taken up by experts in agriculture as a guiding principle for research since the 1992 Earth Summit. The concept is becoming relevant nowadays as the pressure in the environment is increasingly dominating and the world's food security is becoming more fragile.
The publication, authored by a group of CIAT scientists and colleagues from 18 partner organizations, documents recent advances in research on key production systems and crops, and it explores new avenues by which agricultural research can help achieve further gains in eco-efficiency.
