DNA Markers for Crown Rot in Wheat Research

Researchers at the University of Western Australia are working to eliminate crown rot in wheat. Associate Professor Guijun Yan and team received $380,000 grant from the Australian Government for a five-year research that will seek to understand the genetic causes of resistance to crown rot.
"We can screen large number of materials and identify the resistant genoyptes at an early breeding stage so that we can increase our breeding to this disease resistant type in a more efficient way," said Yan. "The farmers are going to have better crops, less disease, more productivity and we'll have more food for people all over the world, because wheat is so important."
