Limited Release for GM Barley and Wheat
September 9, 2011 |
The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has received a licence application from CSIRO for the limited and controlled release of genetically modified (GM) wheat and barley into the environment. CSIRO hopes to conduct a field trial of the two crops modified for altered grain composition, enhanced disease resistance and improved agronomic performance in rain-fed or drought/heat-prone environments.
Proposed trial is at one site in the Australian Capital Territory on 2.3 hectares between May 2012 and June 2017.
