Pakistan President Urged for Gene Revolution In Major Agri Crops

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari supports the move from green resolution to gene revolution through research during the forum on "Overall Review of Agricultural Research Activities with Emphasis on Cotton and Wheat." President Zardari who is also the chair of the forum further said that, "it is time that research institutes and universities work together in agriculture and farming sector to enhance production and meet the food security challenge of the country."
The event was hosted by the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) at the Aiwan-e-Sadr and was attended by government ministers and dignitaries, federal secretaries, representatives from food and agriculture and planning and development, heads of agriculture research organizations and food departments of all the provinces, university heads, and other senior government officials of the relevant ministries and departments.
The President advised the agricultural ministry and PARC to follow the concept of modernized farming and develop plans to help the small and fragile farmers. He reiterated the commitment of the present government to improve the livelihood of small farmers and rural population. The President appreciated PARC for its contribution in cotton research and development of latest technologies, and expressed the hope that collaboration with China will continue for improvement of agriculture in general and wheat and cotton in particular.
