Cargill Programs Focus on Alleviating Hunger

October 22, 2010

Every five seconds, a child dies due to hunger. Thus, many international organizations and private companies are making efforts to alleviate hunger. Cargill, an international producer and marketer for food, agricultural, financial, and industrial products and services, has various programs to feed the hungry across the world.

"Around the globe more than 900 million people are hungry," said Michelle Grogg, senior director, Cargill corporate contributions. "The problem is too big for any single entity to solve alone. At Cargill, we're trying to help ensure everyone has enough to eat by engaging our employees on the issue, as well as partnering with organizations to help find long-term solutions."

The new and expanded partnerships of Cargill includes CARE, a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty; Project Lead the Way (PLTW), which encourages students to pursue higher education in science, technology, engineering, and math; World Wide Fund, which contributes to sustainable palm oil production; and The Nature Conservancy (TNC), which helps in the reduction and stabilization of reforestation rate for responsible soy farming.
