Chinese Scientists and Educators Dialogue on GM

Around 100 biology teachers from secondary schools in Beijing who attended the GMO and Food Safety Workshop on September 21, 2010 agreed to update their teaching with new information about agri-biotechnology and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The workshop which was hosted by the Chinese Society of Biotechnology and China Biotechnology Information Center of the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) facilitated a dialogue between agri-biotechnology scientists and secondary school educators.

Prof. Zhang Chunyi from Biotechnology Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences presented the importance of biotech-breeding in Chinese agriculture and the strategies to promote a bio-industry. Prof.Luo Yunbo, Dean of College of Food Science and Nutritional Engineering, China Agricultural University discussed China's GM bio-safety management measures and safety evaluation methods for GM food.
