World Food Prize Foundation Honors Kofi Annan with Norman E. Borlaug Medallion

Kofi Annan, the former UN Secretary-General was awarded the Norman E. Borlaug medallion for "his international leadership and bringing attention to the issue of global food security" on September 2, 2010 in Ghana. The medallion is presented to recognize world leaders whose actions have benefited mankind such as past awardees Yohei Sasakawa and the Nippon Foundation of Japan in early 2010 and His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand in 2007.

The Medallion was awarded recognizing Annan's exceptional leadership as Secretary-General of the United Nations when he brought attention to the issue of global food security around the world establishing the UN Millennium Development Goals. He is also the chairman of the board for the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa.

"Over the past decade, no one has done more than Kofi Annan to bring attention to the critical issue of global food security around the world nor in fulfilling Norman Borlaug's dream of bringing the Green Revolution to Africa," said Ambassador Kenneth M. Quinn, president of the World Food Prize Foundation.
