Bayer and CTC Team Up to Produce High-Yielding Sugarcane

Bayer CropScience and the CTC – Centro de Tecnologia Canavieira, the Center for Sugarcane Technology, São Paulo, Brazil recently collaborated to develop biotech sugarcane varieties through research and development. The primary objective of their partnership is to combine the expertise of both parties, that is the technology of Bayer and the elite germplasm of CTC, to come up with sugarcane varieties with enhanced sugar content to increase ethanol prodution.
Bayer CropScience sugarcane research and development endeavors are currently focused in Brazil, where approximately 40 percent of the global production takes place. Marc Reichardt, Head of Business Operations Latin America at Bayer CropScience, stressed that they have been working on sugarcane production for more than 30 years so they are now targetting to increase the productivity of the ethanol industry and therefore provide integrated and sustainable solutions.
