USDA Gain Report: The Widespread Use of Biotechnology in Italy

The USDA Gain Report gives an account of the regular use of biotech products by the Italians, such as insulin and cosmetics that are manufactured using biotechnology. Italy has a large and profitable biotech industry operating in the medical, industrial, and agricultural sectors. Italians generally support the medical and industrial applications of biotechnology more than agricultural biotechnology, and this inconsistency of support across sectors is problematic. Italy is losing an important opportunity to modernize its agricultural production.
