Bangladesh PM Bats for Biotechnology

Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina urged academicians, researchers and extension officers in the country's agriculture sector to adopt high technology agriculture systems to address the national food and nutritional security concerns. She was special guest during the inauguration of the 4th National Agriculture Convention on February 11, 2010 of the Agriculturist Institution Bangladesh. She called for the production of more crops in the light of decreasing land by developing varieties through advanced technologies like breeding and biotechnology.

During her last tenure (1996-2001) as Premier of the country, six Science & Technology and Agricultural Universities and the National Institute of Biotechnology were established. The visionary Prime Minister declared her "One House One Farm" in 2006 which has attracted the attention of poor, marginal and landless farmers and contributed to rural economy and health.
