Global Agreement for Marker-Assisted Breeding and Quality Control

January 29, 2010

Bayer CropScience and Fluidigm entered into a multi-year agreement to enhance molecular-marker assisted breeding of vegetable crops. Crop breeding experiments usually require a long time to grow the crops, cross-breed and select plans with the desired traits. This breeding strategy could spread to years or decades before the desired line is obtained. The "high throughput" genotyping of breeding progenies using the Fluidigm technology will reduce the time and cost of identifying desired lines.

Fluidigm provides molecular breeders with equipment to obtain superior data quality, a fast and easy workflow, and significantly higher throughput and cost savings for high-throughput SNP genotyping studies. "Fluidigm is delighted to be a global supplier to Bayer CropScience. Our technology is perfectly suited to help them develop and take-to-market the highest-quality seeds for field and vegetable crops," said Gajus Worthington, president and chief executive officer of Fluidigm.
